Carlton, 74 years
Carlton was born in Guaico City, Trinidad. He had 17 brothers and sisters. Most of them have passed away and he said he has lost track of how many of them are still alive. They are all in Trinidad and he is the only one in Canada.
I moved to Canada as everyone saw 'money growing on the tree.' I worked in a dental lab in Trinidad; I had my own lab. I came to Canada with a woman whom I got married to later on. We have one son. When I moved to Canada, I worked at a chemical lab, making plating solution. It's something you put on gold chains so that they look like real gold. Then I cleaned cars for the next 10 years.
When I was about 17, I played cricket. I was a 'bowler.' I threw a ball to batters. We didn't win because there were better teams than ours, but it really didn't matter as we were having a good time. But for dancing, I won many competitions. I could dance jive, bolero, rumba, and foxtrot. I started learning how to dance when I was 17. Since my foot is not good anymore, I haven't danced for 20 years, but I used to be very good.
I feel very lucky to be with Peel Senior Link. They help me with checking my blood sugar levels, taking medication, cleaning the place, doing laundry, taking baths... They help me a lot. They've changed my life. They are like my family. They are very good to me.
