Etta, 95 years
Etta will be 96 on the 28th of August. She was born in Chirk City in England, on the border of Wales. She moved to Canada in 1968. She has a wonderful son, a daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren, two boys and two girls. Etta is also a wonderful singer. She sings "Oh Canada" at Friendship Club every Tuesday.
I have been singing since I was 5 years old. Every one of us, my whole family, we all sang, but my grandfather is the one who taught me many songs. He used to make leather shoes and clogs for miners. I used to sit on a little stool while my grandfather sang hymns. He taught me how to sing with lots of expression. If you are singing a song like 'Danny Boy,' you have to put in a lot of expression, otherwise it's lost.
'Danny Boy' is the one that everyone asks me to sing. Last Sunday was my friend's 94th birthday. She said 'Now, everyone be very quiet. Etta is going to sing my favourite song.' When I sang, they were all astonished. I'm very independent in lots of ways, but I can't do without Peel Senior Link. I can't tell you how happy I am. I was lonely, but I'm not anymore. I don't have any worries. If anybody asks anything about Peel Senior Link, I'd tell them they don't know what they're missing. That's true. They don't know.
