Gangadai, 83 years
Gangadai was born in Guyana. She and her family moved to Canada about 20 years ago because of the political atmosphere of the country at that time.
Gangadai has never worked in her life, but she had plenty of things to do at home. She is a proud mother of 13 children; 5 of them are in Florida, 3 in New York, 1 in England, 1 in Germany, 1 in Guyana who passed away and 2 in Canada. She also has 32 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. 4 grandchildren live in the Brampton area.
There is no winter in Guyana. So when I first moved to Canada, it was such a big change - Oh, my gosh, Canada is so cold! You get used to it.
When the sun comes out, Lucy (Peel Senior Link's staff) and I go out for a walk with my walker. I can't walk by myself; I am too scared of falling; I am too scared to walk by myself. But with Lucy, we can talk and walk around the block. We chat a little old story. When I go out for a walk, I'm no longer depressed. I get very good help from Peel Senior Link. I am so thankful. I can walk and live independently by myself. They do a lot for me.
