Every morning, Evelyn looks forward to a familiar knock at the door. “My ladies are coming,” she says with a smile.
The visits are part of the daily support she receives through Peel Senior Link. They bring companionship, laughter, and the reassurance that she can continue living where she feels most at home.
Evelyn was born in Glace Bay, NS and moved to Ontario at the age of 18. She is a proud mother and grandmother to two grandsons and enjoys reading the newspaper, tending to her home and garden, and enjoying the rhythms of daily life. Travel once took her on adventures to Hawaii and across Asia, including a memorable trip to Seoul during the 1988 Summer Olympics. Some of her happiest memories are family vacations to Mexico with her young grandsons.
Evelyn has learned how quickly life moves. Her advice to others is simple: “Time passes by way faster than you think. Be kind to yourself and live life without regrets.”
A Need For Daily Support
After a lengthy hospitalization, Evelyn’s daughter helped arrange services with PSL so that Evelyn could safely remain at home. The support made an immediate difference. “It gave us peace of mind,” Evelyn says. “It allows me to continue living in my own home.” For Evelyn, aging with dignity means staying in the place she loves with as much independence as possible. “I’ve never liked the idea of living in a nursing home,” she says. “Peel Senior Link has been instrumental in keeping me at home.”
A Team That Goes Above and Beyond
The past year brought challenges, but Evelyn says the PSL team was there every step of the way. “They help me get through each day and give my family peace of mind that I’m safe,” she says. “They go above and beyond.”
What she appreciates most is the people who visit her home every day. “Getting older is not easy,” Evelyn says. “But this wonderful group of people sees me and treats me with great respect and dignity.”
