How Evelyn Stays Happy and Active with PSL’s Support

Evelyn Irwin has lived a long and vibrant life filled with travel, laughter, and cherished memories.

Born in 1918 in Toronto, Ontario, Evelyn spent most of her life in the city she has always called home. For 25 years, she worked as a cashier at Power Supermarket—now known as Loblaws—where she enjoyed meeting people and being part of the community.

Travel was one of Evelyn’s greatest joys.

“I traveled all over the world including Hawaii, Europe, Italy, and Florida,” she says. Her daughter, who worked as a flight attendant, made many of those adventures possible. “My daughter was a flight attendant and she took me everywhere.”

Evelyn married her husband in 1940. He served in the Canadian military, and she remembers him fondly with a smile.

“He was easy to get along with, he was a hard worker and a good kisser!” she laughs.

They shared many happy years together before he passed away in 1977. Even now, Evelyn says she still misses him and often thinks about their life together.

Staying Active and Engaged

Throughout her life, Evelyn stayed active and engaged. In her younger years, she enjoyed knitting and playing sports like baseball and volleyball.

Some of her fondest memories include visiting Hawaii and purchasing a home in Florida—experiences that brought her great happiness.

When asked what advice she would give others, Evelyn keeps it simple:

“Keep moving and exercising, and having a sense of humour is important.”

Living Independently with Peel Senior Link

Today, Evelyn continues to live independently with the support of Peel Senior Link. She has been a client for more than eight years and says the support she receives makes all the difference.

“I would not be able to live on my own without PSL,” Evelyn says. “They are the best. They are approachable and kind. They are my angels.”
