Nisa Khan
Nisa joined Peel Senior Link in 2008 as Supervisor, Client Services. She has worked in the social sector since 1991. Nisa holds a Bachelors in Sociology and Psychology and a Masters in History. Prior to Peel Senior Link, Nisa worked as a Counselor with Interim Place (shelter for abused women and children in Peel) for 7 years and provided support and counseling to victims of domestic violence.
Nisa worked as a Project Officer with Catholic Relief Services in Pakistan. She worked towards improving the lives of women and children in the most disadvantaged areas of the country by using the food commodities for their physical health and educational development. She contributed towards girls education and women’s development within the cultural constraints and severly conservative environment. She also worked with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and Food and Agricultural Organization in different capacities. In her role, she assessed psycho-social conditions of refugees, their healthcare, education and settlement in European countries.
Nisa takes pride in her enormous contribution to women’s rights in Pakistan. She challenged the judicial system and it took her 10 years of constant struggle to bring changes to Family Law Legislation. This change made a huge impact on women empowerment and thousands of women continue to benefit from it.
Nisa lives in Mississauga with her son and husband. She enjoys travel and has visited many countries in Africa, Europe, Middle East and South East Asia.
